St Andrew's River Studies
This project studies the environmental factors in and around the Kallang River, which flows through St Andrew's Village. Ever since the School moved to Woodsville in 1940, the Kallang River has played a significant role in the lives of the students and staff of the School. It is only natural that in 2005, when the PUB started the 'Our Waters' programme, the School adopted the Kallang River .

There are many reasons for this project :

  • To collate data on the river and to study the impact of the Marina Barrage on the river's environment. The Marina Barrage is a dam built across the Marina Channel. It acts as a tidal barrier. High tides can then be prevented from flooding inland low-lying areas. At the same time, the water trapped behind the dam will serve as a fresh-water reservoir. This reservoir will make up 10000 hectares of catchment area and supply about 16% of Singapore's water needs.

  • To study the quality of the water in the river at different times of the year and track its changes in years to come especially when the Marina Barrage is in place.

  • To bring forth the message to all that water is our precious resource and that we need to look after it.

  • To have fun in doing Scientific 'research'
